How to shot peening work?

There are a small amounts of stress on many materials used in industry, but some materials operate under much higher stress. And they can be deformed in a short time . With some processes , the life of these materials can be extended. One of them is shotpeening process.

Shotpeening is a cold working process in which the fatigue strength of the material is increased by creating compressive stress on the surface by spraying special materials on the surface of the part.

Materials generally used in shot peening are rounded cut wire, steel shot, glass beads, and ceramic beads.

The shot peening process is similar to the blasting process. However, the process parameters (such as pressure, angle) and the consumables to be used play a critical role in the shot peening process and the optimum.

The following parts can be given as an example of the shot peening;

  • Gear parts
  • Camshafts
  • Springs
  • Connections rods
  • Crank shafts
  • Gear wheels
  • Pistons
  • Propeller shafts
  • Compressor blades
  • Turbine blades
  • Landing gear
